About ADF War in the East
The War in the East is a supplement for John Hill’s Across a Deadly Field, which provides players with all the resources to recreate the battles, massive as well as small, of the Eastern Theater of the American Civil War. Step into the shoes of Robert E. Lee and drive towards Washington, our nation’s capitol, with the Army of Northern Virginia or take command of the Army of the Potomac, and attempt to capture Richmond. With various scenarios, including an optional mini-campaign for the first day of Gettysburg and special rules that enhance game play, this volume gives its players, whether you are Union or Confederate, a versatility that can accommodate their preferences and miniatures collections without sacrificing either playability or historical accuracy.
This supplement for Across A Deadly Field includes a variety of scenarios of differing in their size and complexity, intended to give players a wide variety of options for their American Civil War games. The scenarios cover a number of the most famous battles of the Eastern Theatre, including:
- 1st Bull Run
- Antietam
- Chancellorsville
- Brandy Station
- Gettysburg
Smaller scenarios not only focus on the more modest battles in the theatre, but also allow the recreation of individual engagements within larger battles.

Hi Stephanie,
This struck me as such a wonderful way to honor your Dad. You are paying tribute to his legacy and sharing with the world how amazing his accomplishments were.
I think your chosen niche is absolutely necessary for the wargamers out there as they will certainly find value.
Thanks for sharing.
Rachel
Thank you Rachel for the very kind words. I appreciate you checking out this tribute site to my father. Have a wonderful day!
Hello Stephhill,
I didn’t know your dad John Hill, but he sounds like a great man with a great daughter. You make me want to learn more about his accomplishments. Sorry for your loss and will be back to read more about John Hill. Couldn’t think of a better way to honor a loved one.
Hi Billy:
Thank you so much for the kind words. I certainly appreciate that. I too agree that this is a wonderful way to honor my father. Happy New Year and please come back soon.
Stephanie
Hi Stephanie,
I thought, what is this? What is ADF, it’s mentioned a hundred times? I finally got it. How fascinating, I never heard of such a thing.
What stands out is the strong and honest emotion and the way that connects to your guests. And it is very focused on war gaming.
I’m sure it wasn’t easy to squeeze in an advert for Wealthy Affiliate. But it is a little obscure hidden in your About Me page.
Your site is exemplary.
Hi Bluegum:
Thanks for your kind words on my article and my website, a tribute to my deceased father who passed away less than a year ago. And yes, I am with Wealthy Affiliate. I began a career in affiliate marketing after my father passed away so I could stay home full time to handle many of the matters concerning our loss to include being there for my mother.

It’s always a pleasure to play video games that take into account historical facts in their scenarios. My nephew is a gamer and I recently had this discussion with him. A game that is well done should always provide knowledge. Your father left a great heritage for younger generations. The rulebook can really help teenagers get understand this important portion of American history.
Hi Carolyn:
Thank you for visiting my website. I am sure your nephew would enjoy playing wargames. Be sure to check out my Parent’s Guide to Understanding Tabletop Wargaming to get an idea if this is the right hobby for your nephew. I try and explain within that article all that a parent (or even an Aunt) needs to know about wargaming.

Thank you Caroline. I appreciate the kind words. My father’s games were mostly tabletop games and not video games.
I never play war game before. Just playing air soft gun games with my friend.
(Hey.. does playing turn based strategy game like Final Fantasy include in this category?)
Your tribute to your father makes me want to learn more about war game. Full scale role playing with good rules can make a whole lot of experience.
Since I am a newbie, I will browse around your site before going to e-bay and grabbing the ADF rulebook!
Thanks for igniting back the “hero” inside me!
Hi Ariefw:
Thank you for visiting my father’s tribute site. I appreciate you taking the time to browse through it. The ADF (Across A Deadly Field) Rulebook is for the serious wargamer and not the newbie.
I am glad to have ignited the “hero” inside you. I am sure you are a fine hero.

Most of us are interested in the past and the collection of memorabilia. With so many war type games available, maybe the younger generation should take a look at the ADF rulebook. At least the battles are real but maybe the world should learn about the battles from history.
Thank you Tony for reading my article on ADF rulebooks. And yes, I think studying the battles of our past are very interesting indeed. Have a wonderful day.
Hi Steph. This ADF rulebook looks like a very good buy for the wargamer in the family, for Christmas. It is a fascinating and, dare I say, fun, way to spend an afternoon. War itself, is no fun.
I am assuming that your father, John Hill, wrote these books. You must be very proud of him.
Hi Christine:
Thank you for checking out my tribute site. In answer to your question, yes my father did design these wargames. I appreciate your kind words and yes, I am proud of him and miss him dearly. It is our first holiday without him.
Stephanie
